what is the easiest way to set the ip of a Red Hat box, without using linux config. Im looking for an example like on debian I would edit the /etc/network/interfaces file.

Does Red Hat have something similar?

at the cl type:
ifconfig ethX XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX

In /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0

DEVICE=eth0
IPADDR = IP
NETMASK= netmask NETWORK = network IP adres BROADCAST = broadcast IP adres
GATEWAY = IP adres gateway
