There are a few websites we use which are reliant on our having a plug-in that can handle MIME type: application/x-java-vm

They prompt you to install the plug-in, the Netscape pop-up box even gives you the option of Linux (!!!!!) but the auto-download/auto-install doesn't work. So what gives?

In the case of SuSE, the mozilla plugins are located in /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins, and you either have to be browsing the web in a root session (how do you spell stupid-and-presumptuous-of-Netscape ?) OR you have to have that directory's read/write permissions set such that anyone can write to it (i.e. chmod 777).

In either case the auto-download and install works great.

Hope this is of some help to someone,
Rick D.

Well, I remember banging my head against a wall on this one too, finally logging in as root to install the plugin.

I don't recall, but I don't believe the install info actually mentions to watch out for the permissions "gotchya".

Still haven't gotten applets to work in Konqueror, though...
