well for over a year i have been fighting to get 3d with my pci diamond monster fusion- voodoo banshee goin and have read alot of posts with other people havin probs with it too ..so i hope that this may help a few of you.....first off i didnt really do anything but i will tell my story...before i have always had a ps2 mouse connected with an adapter to my com port 1.my m/b has a ps2 port but my case didnt have a hole for it ..so recently i bought a new ps2mouse but it wasnt compatible to work with the adapter in com port one ..so i drilled a hole on my case so i could access my ps2 port for my mouse and since i have had my mouse plugged into ps2 port my vido card is working in 3d now..so this led me to bielive that there is was some irq prob between my mouse in com port 1 and video card...the problems that i was experiencing was that whenever i would load a 3d game it would crash somtimes it wouldnt load and other times it would but only playable for a few seconds and then freeze ...same thing would happen in gears... so i think i kinda flooked out here but hopefully this will help someones frustration out there....

Now I just want to say that I use a Diamond Fusion Banshee card in my box and it does work in 3d. But...It suffers a performance hit compared to windows. In fact in Unreal Tournament it performs quite poorly. The 3d screen savers work but the quality is so-so.
The system is a P3 450 with 256Meg PC100 rdram running dual boot Win98 and RedHat 7.1. I am getting ready to purchase a GeForce2 MX200 for the system. I finally found one with PCI interface at a reasonable price. But not because of Linux, simply because it is a better card and I am getting it new for about $40.
