All the formats in which Ive setup DNS servers, including MS ones, I've always got an error when using NSlookup on a client of that DNS server.
It says Default domain not found or Invalid
(or something like that)
You need to make additional records for your DNS server inside of the files for the domain.
For example
domain.com should have a record for the dns server in it
as well as
0.168.192-inaddr-arpa (whatever, I cant remember) should have records for the itself in there
and dont forget
0.0.127-in-addr.arpa should have a dns server listed as itself as well.
Forgive me if I screwed up, this was all off the top of my head, but anyway yuou get the idea.
