This is great. . .
My old hard drive was making the best noise in the world (kilng, scrpae, kling)
Don't know why oh well. . . I took it into the shop to get it fixed (I still have a warenty on it) Wrote a nice long note telling the techie that my system was running Linux and there was no need to partition the drive or install/backup any thing just put a new drive in. My old drive was a 10.2GIG drive. They replaced it with a 30.2GIG drive. :D

most companies will do that: they kinda account for whatever is equivalent now in terms of price from when you bought it.

not exactly a free drive though... and if it's still under warranty, it's hardly old :P

It's actually one and a half years old
got an extended warenty for $20 extra
so it's worth the $20 :)
It would of cost me $400 for every thing with out the warenty

Close enough to free for me

That was with labor tax (GST PST) and evry thing
$400 is not bad for a HD in Canada
they run from (20GIG)$200 - $600(100GIG)

Don't forget that individual components typically have much longer warranties than the system you buy.

Case in point - The G4 we have here at work b0rk3d its harddrive. Mac's 1 year warranty ran out last year, but the actual drive has/had a 5 year warranty from the manufacturer (maxtor). 10 minutes on the phone had a new drive on the way, with pre-paid return shipping for the bad one :)
