Well, my pursuit of general pc knowledge, programming, internet and linux has finally paid off. I've landed a part-time job as a sys-admin for a small local mechanic shop. Okay, so it's only 3-4 pc's and a rather simple setup, but it's going to grow and that's going to look rather nice on a resume, not to mention better money than I'm makeing at my full-time phone support job. Keep the faith, it'll happen for you to. http://www.linuxnewbie.org/ubb/smile.gif

Best of luck! Remember that you're never going to be able to stop ALL attackers, so the best you can hope for is to slow them down, get lots of warning, and easily recover from any problems.

Sure you can stop all attacks, just let no one on the computers.

You can stop all outside attacks by not letting anyone access the 'net.

Outside of that then a good firewall, security patches and well kept log files.

I just figured on removing the outside connection and locking the room. No access. Pretty secure if you ask me http://www.linuxnewbie.org/ubb/smile.gif

The best defense, if you are connected to the 'net is a proper network architecture. You can avoid the bottlenecks that firewalls present using good hardware and even better planning.... SNAT, VIP, ....

The topic didn't change. What do sysadmins spend most of their time doing? (And don't tell me "helping morons log on by deleting 500M of porno emails")

Lots of what they shouldn't be.. Jobs that aren't theirs since no one else can get it right..

Oh wait, that's just where I work.
