I wanted to hear opinions on what everyone thinks about each of the OSes mentioned. This is not to be a flame war of which OS rules the universe. I would just like a pros and cons for each of them.
Darwin/Pro: I am excited about the Darwin movement since Apple has taken a *nix based OS (FreeBSD/w the Mach kernel) to form a solid foundation for the Aqua desktop. A feat the *nix community has been trying to achieve for a while. Apple has done it in quite an elegant way.
Darwin/Con: I am still waiting on what the *nix developer community wants to do with Darwin. I have been watching GNU/Darwin closely. Is the Darwin base an efficient foundation? What are Apples' future plans? Will there be too much bulk added in the future? I am sort of a practical person as well so while I appreciate the Apple efforts of Aqua and all, I still like a stable, efficient system. This is a wait and see stage for me right now.
*BSD/Pros: Stable and user tested. Ports. Not too much to add here since it has been expounded upon many times over.
*BSD/Cons: Takes awhile for updates but this may be the reason for the stability so I not really a con in my opinion, but was the only thing I can think of at the moment.
Debian GNU/BSD/Pros: This is another exciting project I am looking forward to. Everyone is probably familiar with Debians infamous apt-get. I like BSD and I like Debian Linux so I think this will be quite an awesome marriage. This may be the linux killer as I think (as in my opinion) the rest of the linux distros do not come close to Debian linux. I know Darwin has Fink but I think this will be a better integrated function within the Debian GNU/BSD version.
Debian GNU/BSD/Cons: At the moment none since I have not heard or seen much except for what is on the Debian website.
Okay now, let's hear what you guys think. Again let's have a good discussion and not a my *enis is bigger than yours squabble. In which case mine is :p
