I'm having trouble installing my copy of Solaris8.

my system seems to lock up every time I get to the section where I configure the language of my keyboard (well thats what I think I'm doing).

Useless information:
I've setup dual boots before
xp is on hda1
Specs:
celeron 300a @ 451mhz
224MB ram
gforce2 Ti

I was thinking it might be my copy of solaris8... so umm... if anyone knows where I could get an ISO of solaris8 (for informational purposes of course) please post it up... thank you :)

Actually it sounds like a hardware incompatibility but I'm not 100% certain. You can get Solaris from Sun's website for free but you have to register or some such stuff. I believe they have ISOs available.(Sorry, it's been awhile) To be honest, Solaris for Intel has REALLY crappy hardware compat. You'd actually be better off buying a used Sparc from Ebay if you can afford it. After all, most Solaris installs you see will be on Sun hardware. This will especially be the case because they have abandoned any further development on Solaris Intel. ie there will be no Solaris 9 for Intel. I know that this probably isn't very helpful but this was my experience as I tried to go down the same road you are and I ended up just getting a Ultra 1 off of Ebay. Good luck!

I just got done downloading ISOs for my SPARC machine from there today... Turns out they don't offer Intel ISOs for downloading, just SPARC. If you want to get it from them, you have to pay like, 45 bucks or something...

Hell 45 ain't bad to the 75 I paid for the media kit. You do get a bunch of crap with it as well as a very limiting license. :(

Honestly, I would really recommend staying away from Solaris for Intel mostly becuase of what I said before about Sun abandoning further releases. They will be supporting it for the next 7 years but once they reach that point, you are on your own. I saw a lot of decent Sparcs and Ultras on Ebay this evening for not a large amount of money. Stay with a minimum of a Sparc 5, especially if you are going to try and run Solaris 8.

Again, sorry we haven't offered much of a solution to your current problem but perhaps if you are able to get us some more info it might give us more to go on.

I just put Solaris on my SPARC machine last night... I guess I'm gonna play around with it for a while. If I don't like it, I'm just gonna untar the previous Debian system I had on it!
