I am not familiar with FreeBSD, but I am going to give it a chance, hardware willing. I am downloading 4.3 right now. Will XWindows on FreeBSD work with the Radeon? Which version of XFree86 does it have?
I have an AMD TBird 700 on an Irongate chipset. There is a known problem with the Radeon/Irongate/XFree86 4.0.x combination that I hope FreeBSD will solve. Any suggestions?

FreeBSD, the latest version 4.3 or 5.0-CURRENT, is still using XF86 3.3.6 by default. If your card has a known problem with XFree86 4.x, what make you think that FreeBSD team would solve the problem? It's the job of XFree86 team to get the problem solved.

Good point. My thinking was backwards. The Radeon didn't even have support aside from being a frame buffer before XFree86 4.0.2. All well, no FreeBSD for me then.
Thanks.

I had my Radeon working in FreeBSD 4.2 using XFree 4.0.2. I'm currently working on getting it to work in XFree 4.0.3 (which is provided in the FreeBSD 4.3 image). If I get it working, I'll post what I did for you here.
