I'm been thinking about trying FreeBSD for a while. After Beowulfs_Ghost's almost religious overview of FreeBSD on #grasshoppers the other day, I've decided to give it a try. I've been reading the main freeBSD website, the site www.mostgraveconcern.com/freebsd/ (http://www.mostgraveconcern.com/freebsd/) and some others from google etc.

What I want to know is, are there any important things I need to know before Installing? I know my hardware inside out and have got hold of a 4GB hdd as a slave to install on.

It's going to be much like my Slack Setup, Blackbox/Fluxbox, Web Browsing, E-mail, Desktop type stuff etc.

Cheers Zombie :)

Just incase it's relevant my hardware is as follows:

CPU: PIII 450MHz
RAM: 768MB PC100
Mobo: Intel SE440BX2
Primary HDD: 8GB Fujitsu
Slave HDD: 4GB Maxtor
CD-ROM: 52x
Soundcard: Yamaha onboard (ymfpci module)
Video Card: GeForce II MX 32MB
Modem: External US Robotics 56K

I just installed FreeBSD 4.5 last weekend and got the main tweaking out of the way so my wife could use it (the main thing) last night. I put Slack 8 on my older box, and it was easy to get them connected with nfs. I like it, in many ways it is even more like Slackware than Slackware. You should do fine with it if you pay close attention to the documentation.
