I am running Solaris 7 at work and I installed KDE and Gnome from Sun's extras CD from their Solaris 8 distro. It installs both desktops in /opt/sfw and i run the script to get Gnome and KDE as options in the login screen but when I click on them I don't logon...it just goes blank like it is trying too but then goes back to the logon prompt.
CDE is so boring. I need and deserve a better desktop at work, any help will be appreciated.

I do know that those UIs are for Solaris 8, not 7. But, if you want Gnome on your desktop, and you are running a sparc or ultra box, you can go to http://www.ximian.org and install ximian gnome. Works like a charm, though you will want to adjust your resolution (which I cannot remember how to do at the moment, I don't have solaris in front of me.)
I've got KDE 1.2 running on Solaris 8. Its been like 10 months since I installed it, but I don't remember having any problems getting it to work. I do remember the kde package I installed was for Solaris 7 though.
