Watch for changes (read more restrictive) like Microsoft terms and conditions on all BSD based products.

How will this affect the BSD world?

Will not affect NetBSD and OpenBSD at all as BSDi has nothing to do with them. FreeBSD may have a small implication or two but the commercial BSDi will have to pay the consequences though.

TC has it right. NetBSD and FreeBSD split a long time ago. And IIRC OpenBSD is based on NetBSD.

The original BSDi and FreeBSD merger was to be mutualy benefitial. FreeBSD would get some nice BSDi parts, and BSDi would get some nice FreeBSD parts. With Wind River, the worst you can expect is the BSDi will get some nice FreeBSD parts, and FreeBSD will get nothing. FreeBSD is currently under the least restrictive license in the world, and Wind River can't touch that.
