(Its an OLD CARD!!) jbstew32 04-17-2001, 09:36 PM Though i still believe its good for certain purposes....just not very good with compatability TC 04-17-2001, 11:45 PM Solaris is setup for there own hardware. The i386 version is really only for training purposes. Not for use in the production world. :) TC forrest 04-18-2001, 01:23 AM solaris is just not supposed to be used on... 1. non sun hardware 2. home user workstations it's non-free unix. i mean, you don't even get compilers with solaris! and you have to install all the gnu utils yourself... boring... i mean, if you want hardcore unix, without the garbage... get a bsd. RTFM 04-18-2001, 01:56 AM MMkkkayyy.... CDE sucks anway, dont use X. the_bad_seed 04-18-2001, 01:15 PM VooDoo 3000 (I used the 3500) - can be used, but you need to use the generic svga driver and you only get a 600x800 resolution @ 16 colors. Not very fun, but I used it like that for awhile before I got the Matrox G400 Max. jbstew32 04-18-2001, 03:22 PM my points exactly.... Shadoglare 04-23-2001, 11:47 AM Yeah Solaris sucks for pretty much anything but production server use. But it pays well, so I'm learnin it ;) njcajun 05-01-2001, 12:59 PM Yeah, it does pay well. I have one question, though - what the hell are you gonna do with a Voodoo card on a solaris box even if you DO get it working? Go see the new Solaris for penguins NHF - I talk about this in there. jbstew32 05-01-2001, 03:26 PM I wasnt planning on gaming...i just wanted a worked desktop...which i didnt get :( justlinux.com
