Do you think it would work with OpenBSD and NetBSD too? I mean, I'd love to watch a DVD on my DVD player (which NetBSD has a port for). ;)

I've never used NetBSD or OpenBSD, but I'm sure it would work fine. I was able to build mplayer from source by hand on FreeBSD before I knew there was a port for it, so there must not be much platform-dependent stuff in there.
