Hi folks.
I've a problem to get my SCSI Controller to run under SCO Open Server Release 5. It's an adaptec (AIC-7178). The system isn't able to build the new system kernel.
It showed this error message...
"/var/opt/K/SCO/link/1.1.1Eb/etc/conf/pack.d/Stp/space.h",line 70: too many initialitzers; missing.
And some other like this. Any Ideas???
SCO is going the way of the Dodo bird. Dump SCO and install one of the BSD's, is the best advise I can give. SCO support is very lacking since Caldera.

Hm, the problem is, one of my teachers has a software (I don't know what it is) running on SCO. Is it possible to get Unixsoftware runnung on other OS's???
Of course to answer this, I must know what software your planning to run. BSD is UNIX and does support numerous other platforms software. The two I would suggest for compatibility with other Unices are NetBSD and FreeBSD. You may be suprised to find the software you want is already ported!

Ok, I couldn't tell you which software it is. It's from a little german software corp, that I didn't find on the net...that's the problem...

Any of the BSDs can run SCO binaries, you just have to make sure that functionality is in the kernel. If not, compile a new one with it enabled.

Ok, it seems BSD is the way to go. The only Problem could be that my teacher wants SCO Unix, but I'll try to convice him...

Hello- I am a newbie after ~9 mos of trying to get Corel apps to run on my box. I am planning to take SCO sysadmin courses at my local community college for certification and was getting ready to pay 50 bucks for SCO and I have no idea what kind of desktop it has if any. I hate to throw out my WPO2000 cd's but Corel Linux is apparently a dead distro since they violated GPL rules and their Linux customers' trust. So since I am basically starting over would BSD (Net? Open? Free?) be a next choice, considering support options and commercial networking and other marketable skills that I might learn?
I would start with FreeBSD but try OpenBSD and NetBSD after. You can get the book and cd's at most computer book stores. Here is the site if you want order:

As for Debian, you might want to try Progeny, its a little rough right now but will improve. Much better than Corel to administer:

Anyways have fun! :D
