I used it but I had to remove it. It seems to be a real programers OS. It is easy to install.

I would say no. But Plan 9 fans view Linux, *BSD and Solaris as full of bloat (some do) and find the Acme Editor, Sam and rc shell as being very powerful.

It is very stable but hardware support sucks. It runs only on x86, and can only use Mach based video cards and a few made by s3. Get an old Viewsonic Monitor or you may have a hard time seeing what you are installing. A good way to test is to download the bootdisks from bell labs and test it on your machine before going through the trouble of installing it. The one advantage is that it only needs 16mb RAM and less than 200mb disk space to have a really full install and getting the hardware can be cheap. I got a socket 7 mobo for $40, case for free, P166 for free 32mb pc100 ram for $40 (cheaper now) old hd for free, and ATI Expert 98 Video card for $35 and viewsonic 4E monitor for free (800x600) all the other parts were also scavenged and free so I spent about $80 for a plan 9 box (now a freebsd box).
lastly is it a bit eye candy !!!
Depends what you consider "eye candy" I like the simple grey and pastels of Rio in Plan 9 but it is no Windowmaker/Gnome/KDE.

I recomend you install it if you can. It is always fun to play around with a new OS.
