A fun app, if you can find it, is Analog Pulse.

And feel free to ask any BeOS questions in this forum.

i put pulse + onto my box, since i run RC5 on there the regular pulse didn't mean much

i finally got some music ripped, you were right B_G, it has that button to save a track, and a format choice is mp3, then just ftp it to my internet jukebox
can't get much easier :)

now i just gotta show my kid how to do it (i'm going to pay her a buck a cd :D )

Thanks for the replies! Can't seem to dig up any info on Analog Pulse. What type of app is it? Is it freeware? Where'd ya get it? lol
I checked bebits and a few other sites, however, my knowledge of beos sites is limited to only a few, so any good ones you know of, I'd love to hear about! :)

Analog Pulse is like the standard Pulse app. But instead of green bars, it has needles that go back and forth.

As far as useful apps, their is always Lynx and Opera for your browsers.

If need an office suite, their is Gobe Productive. It is a commercial app, but you can download a trial version at bebits. It's about equal to MS Works.

Okay, found analog pulse, but only in a ppc format. But I did find a few cool apps on tucows. Nothing great, but hey, something to start with. Thanks for the advice guys!

Good to hear you got BeOS up and running. I've played around with Be a bit but I never suceeded in getting anything working (particularly my NIC) :( . Anyway keep us abreast of your BeOS adventures. I gotta admit I like Be but I can't do anything except look at the pretty screen. The other problem with Be is that there is no BeOSnewbie.org to spend inordinate amounts of time going though posts, frittering your time away (or is there?).

Sorry to hear about you NIC trouble. NIC's are a pain to configure. Their are hundereds of different chipsets out their, and it's hard to tell what is supported, and what isn't.

Their are BBS's for BeOS. The problem is, is that most of them are populated by very pessimistic people.
www.begroovy.com (http://www.begroovy.com) is a pretty good one. But I still have to warn you that alot of trolls are going about proclaiming the death of BeOS.

Of course, you and always post BeOS threads in this forum.

Thanks for the heads up BG. Why do you figure the folks on the BeOS forums are so pessimistic? I have my opinions (low BeOS market share etc) but I don't think they are well informed.

It isn't one thing really. It's several things.

It's BONE, OpenGL, Java, a full featured browser. So if you find one person for each of those things, you have four peopling complaining about BeOS. Add to this lack of support from the hardware companies, and you have a lot of people complaining. So one person will say BeOS is total crap, simply because it doesn't support some USB NIC. You see the same thing here on LNO. The difference between Linux and BeOS is that Linux has momentum, and a large philosophical (Open Source) following. So if some one has problems with Linux, they are writen with RTFM, or just told to code the solution them selves, or just rejoyce in Linux's openess. BeOS on the other hand, lacks momentum, or a large philosophical following. Add to this, the tech down turn, and a few mistakes on Be Inc.'s side, and you have alot of pessimism.

All in all, BeOS is a pretty good OS. The hardware support maybe less then Linux, but it's alot easier to set up. Their are apps for it. Maybe not every app, but enough. I found enough apps to make BeOS my main OS. Alot of people say, "Linux's wish list reads like BeOS's feature list."

There is a newbie site for BeOS out there. It is http://www.newbe.org - wonder where they came up with that idea?

Thanks for the replies and the info guys. Oh . . . I went to some of those BeOS forums and yeah, there are some bitter, negative BeBoys online.

It's been a bad year, that's all. The BeOS community is just waiting for some good news.

Regardless of what the pessimists are saying, I'm loving it!! Oh, and found a sweet little app. It's yer standard file sharing app. BeShare. Got ALL kinds of goodies for BeOS now!!! (incl. Quake2 and some other pretty nice games)

Still can't get the dvd player to work, though. Keeps locking up as soon as a movie starts... :(

But other than that, no complaints! :D
