I picked up a Mac Performa 550 at a garage sale, just as something to play with, and I was pondering putting Linux on it.

Prob is, I no absolutely nothing about Macs, I don't even know what kind of processor it has, or if Linux even could be put on it.

Can someone point me in the right direction for this sort of thing?

The Performa 550 is one those good old Nubus-based Macs with a, I believe, 68030 processor. Mklinux should work just fine on the baby.

Check it out at www.mklinux.org (http://www.mklinux.org) .

The ones worth to check out are TurboLinux,
Yellow dog Linux, MkLInux as dotzourb sad and I know Debian has partial support for some.

Actually there is two more that I don't remember since I just read about them but never used them. LinuxPPC or something...
