Mouse is loopy

I have just installed slackware 7.1 and i am trying to get x configured all is well apart from the mouse (has microsoft written on it oh dear). First off its a ps/2 intellimouse so i checked the link psaux is going to /dev/mouse ok fair enough. Then i make the protocol IMPS/2. startup x and there is no complaints however the mouse cursor is going left and right rather rapidly at the top of the screen and will not come down its not a prob with the mouse cause i have had x running on rh and suse with no problems. Any ideas whats going on. ( ps when i say its going all over the place i don't mean its my movements exageratted it is not in any relation to what im doing :) )

Ok just to add i am using the mouse in the console with absolutely no problems :/ is it the fact that gpm is messing x's mouse if so thought that only applied to bus mouses hmm ...

That's usually the case.

Searching the forums for 'erratic' will give you similar posts.

Managed to get it working and gpm so thats cool :) ta for help anyway
