Anyone know an url? Aikidoka 04-03-2001, 02:39 PM Since it was just released it's going to take a little while for the packagers to get the packages out. Just be a little patient unless you want to retry compiling from source. As always, for the rpm users (yuck!) there's rpmfind.net. Try that. EyesWideOpen 04-03-2001, 03:37 PM Is there a HOWTO (or some equivalent) somewhere to help with a GNOME 1.4 install (upgrade)? I mean, if you look on the ftp site there are a bunch of files (gnome-core-1.4.0.1.tar.gz, gnome-utils-1.4.0.tar.gz, etc) with the 1.4 version number. Which ones do I have to download? I seem to remember upgrading to Ximian GNOME via an install script that updated over the internet I believe. Is there anything like that for this release? Aikidoka 04-03-2001, 04:12 PM Ximian hasn't released their latest packages yet. You'll have to compile all those packages in the gnome ftp folder for 1.4 and plain gnome doesn't have an installer. Either compile away or wait for .deb or .rpm's from gnome or ximian. EyesWideOpen 04-03-2001, 05:40 PM Do I have to compile all of the files in the ftp folder? Aikidoka 04-04-2001, 02:59 PM I believe so, you'll have to read the documentation because I am not 100% sure on that. Marcel2008 04-05-2001, 12:01 PM I downloaded the rpms from http://www.ximian.org/desktop/packages.php3 How do i know these are the 1.4 rpms? Ximian doesn't seem to give much info... :p Sweede 04-05-2001, 12:56 PM Originally posted by Marcel2008: I downloaded the rpms from http://www.ximian.org/desktop/packages.php3 How do i know these are the 1.4 rpms? Ximian doesn't seem to give much info... :p the file name, gnome-core 1.2.4-0_helix_2 <- version 1.2 Ximian (Helix) is not the same as like, Gnome 1.4 they're the same WM, but there's something different between them, perhaps someone will comment on it. Marcel2008 04-05-2001, 01:12 PM I can't get it from gnome.org, tried at helix but wasn't there, then at ximian still no luck... Even the "gnome 1.4 released" link on gnome.org is dead.... All i want is to download it, how hard can that be? Aikidoka 04-05-2001, 03:15 PM First off, Helix and Ximian are one and the same. Second, they have a link to the sources off the press release on linuxtoday.com. inkedmn 04-06-2001, 02:27 PM you can use the gnome installer (i did, easy as hell) by going to download.com and searching for gnome. follow the prompts, and it will take you to the gnome download page (http, not ftp) where it gives you step by step. i'm telling you, i know about jack **** about linux and i could do it. brett justlinux.com
