Ok, I did a full install of Slackware 8.0. I want to remove X, KDE, GNOME and the others (I only want command line, this is a gateway so it won't even have a monitor hooked up to it...).

NM. I'm just removing the packages I don't want installed.

may i ask why you remove x? i mean, you have the choice between:
* a pretty desktop, images etc
* plain text
Yes, sometimes the plain text is better, though i can't understand why ppl remove it.. exept if you don't have enough HD space

How many reasons do you want?

A. The box is a firewall/gateway/webserver
IT DOESN'T NEED A GUI.

B. It sits in a closet with out a keyboard/monitor.

C. The hd is only 2g.

D. Its a P133

E. I didn't want a gui, I like the command line.

F. LYNX r0x0r5

Need I go on?

G. Its a Slackware Box. Its perfect in the command line.

H. Nautilus is a bunch of Bloat, so is KDE, Gnome, Netscape, Galeon, Mozilla, Koffice and the rest.

I. Fortune works at the CLI

At the command line interface (CLI) type fortune.

If you have the bsd games package installed, you get a witty saying.

I think you can type setup from a root command line and then select the add/remove packages option. I could be wrong though.

I just used the removepkg command. Worked like a charm.
