hi,

in gnome i dont know what to set the "file type and programs to" for .zip files. i want to just be able to click on the file in gnome file manger and have it open.

also, what is the terminal command to open a zip file and what do i need? is linzip any good and is it even needed?

I don't use my terminal for that, so I can't give you the cmd. Though, I think Nautilus gives you that msg, it gives that for a lot of stuff - at least, with me - that's also one of the reasons I don't use it anymore.. Use the GnomeMidnightCommander (gmc) and click to times on your *.zip, it will unzip it, then just copy the files to where you want them.. That should do it.

The command for decompressing a zip archive is:
unzip filename.zip
I don't know off the top of my head the options for viewing the contents, etc., but that's what the man pages are for.

I used to use Linzip, and found it nice, but I mostly use a terminal now, so I just never got back to it. I haven't used GNOME in a while, but I do know KDE has a zip extractor configured into Konqueror by default.
