So I just switched to window maker out of idle curiosity. It's wonderful - I'm running on a PII 233 with limited memory so KDE and GNOME hogged way too much resources.
I've read about people running KDE in window maker, which sounds good, but I have no idea how to set that up. Also, I want to know if WindowMaker will still run as fast.
On another note, what's the best file manager to use in WindowMaker? XFM seems to be the default but I can't get it to install. Anybody have any other suggestions?

I have a suggestion for the file manager:
ROX-Filer. Check it out
here. (http://rox.sourceforge.net/rox_filer.php3)

If you've got KDE installed then you can just use Konqueror within WindowMaker (you don't need to be running KDE at all). Alternatively, in theory it should be possible to edit the startup script for KDE so that it starts WindowMaker rather than kwm (the KDE window manager). How well this would work in practice I don't know.
rather than run KDE in WindowMaker, use the wmakerconf in the GUI to add a KDE menu, and add submenus for the K programs you want to run. It's easy to do, and I've had no problems with it
Good luck

that works fine, just open /usr/bin/startkde
and on the last line after --restore you change it into --restore --windowmanager windowmaker
that's it
