I have a quadruple boot right now, winME, win2k, winXP, and RH7.1

now, I pretty much considered myself a windows guru... then I hit linux

holy *^&*^%

ok, i can do most things, however, I used Xconfigurator to set up X. but I can't change resolutions. how would I do that??

I got it to work once, but all it did was instead of changeing resis, it just did a virtual desktop so when I move mouse around it moved screen.

then, i tried following the instructions on this site to install my SBLive, but i got all kinds of problems. when i did the rm *dep* , it said no such file. when I did the three make statements, I got all sorts of errors. whats up???

then!... i wanted to install my DLink NIC so I could actually browse the internet. but when I do kernelconf and add eth0, it gives a list of types that look like garbaly gook, how would I get this nic to work?

--------------------------------------------

Now I know why windows is popular...

it's not that it's too prissy-user-friendly
it just doesn't make things hard ON PURPOSE!

<ctrl>+<alt>+<+> to enlarge screen, <ctrl>+<alt>+<bckspc> to reduce I believe.

Uhh, go into /etc/X11/XF86Config and scroll near the bottom. You'll see some resolutions probably...just change them to something higher...

As for your SBLive....haven't got a clue :)

My apologies, the directions I just gave were for freebsd using xfree86. I'm not sure whether those key combos work the same in rh.

there are many ways to change your res. one gui is XF86Setup (maybe on your distro)

for your nic you should look at the man pages for ifconfig & route

somting like:
ifconfig etho xxx.xxx.xxx (<< ip address)
route add default xxx.xxx.xxx
