I posted a similar message in GNO, but then I realized this should be posted in here. Sorry for the redundance.

After I change my themes in either KDE or GNOME, my screen goes plaid. Yes, plaid. The only way I can get rid of this is to press the power button and perform a hard shutdown.

Is there any reason my screen does this? Is it a flaw in XFree86 or my video card? (Intel Corp (generic) 82810E CGC) Should I just stick to the default mode?

Thanks for helping out.

Sounds like a "Spaceballs" thing!! 'We've gone plaid!!!' :D :D What distro are you using? Not that it makes any difference I suppose, but I was curious b/c I havent run into that problem with either Mandrake or Redhat. But anyway... that is just really weird. Also, what Xfree are you using? That would actually be an important detail. Definitely try a Google search and search the FAQs of KDE, GNOME and Xfree. Good luck!
