My school uses Solaris 8, so I kind of got hooked on CDE. Finding it for Red Hat 7.1 would be nice. XFce looks pretty similar as far as the toolbar is concerned, but what I really like about CDE is the way iconified programs stay on the desktop instead of getting squished into a tiny taskbar. Thanks in advance.

Apparently TriTeal is supposed to have (or did have) a version of CDE for Red Hat but everything I see about it is outdated. Not to mention that I can't get to http://www.triteal.com.

You may want to do some searching on Google (http://Google) .

Some sites I came up with:
http://www.redhat.com/support/errata/cde/cde-1.2-errata.html
http://perso.club-internet.fr/dpo/redhat/52.html

That second one is in French. You can use The Fish (http://world.altavista.com) to translate it if you want.

You may like XFce (http://www.xfce.org/). I used to use it... mostly for screenshots. ;) Also, do a search on freshmeat using 'CDE". I think there are a few lesser known window managers that imitate the look of CDE.

Thanks! I'd seen XFce, but even thought the control panel looks like the one in CDE, I wasn't sure if minimized programs stayed on the desktop like shortcuts or if they went to a toolbar somewhere. Having the whole screen to hold all the stuff I need running sure is nice! :)
