Well. Im new to linux and i find KDE and GNOME very useful. But i want to know whats the difference. What kind of window managers can i use with KDE?

KDE and GNOME seems pretty similar to me. Well, one difference is that KDE has its own window manager, kwm, but GNOME doesn't have any special window manager that comes with it (though Enlightenment and Sawmill are both designed to work well with GNOME). That's why it's a bit harder to change KDE's window manager. I've noticed that the KDE's panel doesn't work very well with other window managers.

At least Window Maker (http://www.windowmaker.org) works pretty well with KDE. What window managers do you have installed? Try them with KDE. You can switch the window manager on the fly in KDE. For example, to try Window Maker, type in a terminal window: kwmcom go:wmaker

To change KDE's default window manager, you could edit a file called .xinitrc in your home directory. For example, to make Window Maker the default window manager, you could put these lines to .xinitrc (at least I don't know anything better):

kfm &
kpanel &
exec wmaker

You can also check www.linuxberg.com (http://www.linuxberg.com) to see what window managers they have there. Hope that helps.

I am new as well to Linux, but I tried Gnome and Kde. I think there are a few differences worth pointing out. The look and feel of Kde is more like Windoze. Things like, when you click on the <start> menu button it stays up til' you click somewhere else. Whereas in Gnome it close as soon as you take your mouse off of it. I have read a few articles about the differences between kde and Gnome's archetecture and as far as I have read, Gnome seems to be in the lead there. But I think that it is all up to you and your pref. I like Kde and it handles what I use it for just nicely. Just my $.02.
