Want Gnome as default

When I startx I get some strange desktop, how do I get gnome to start instead.

you need to change your .xinitrc. Remove the bottom line and add this

gnome-session

.xinitrc should be in your home directory, if its not you can make one

FYI.

Another way is to put exec gnome-session in a .xsession file in your users home directory.

I just have "kde" or "gnome" in my .xinitrc
file without the "exec.." so what's the difference?
