I have a few dockapps running in the slit in blackbox. When I click the maximize button on a window, it covers the slit, but not the toolbar. Is it possible to setup blackbox so that when I maximize a window, it doesn't cover the slit?

second question:
Is bbkeys required to do window cycling?

IIRC, there's a patch that will allow your window to maximize without covering the toolbar and the slit: http://blackbox.thelinuxcommunity.org/patches.html

I'm not sure I understand your 2nd question, but bbkeys can do Windows cycling if you mean changing focus on Windows, of if you meant switching desktops, it can do that too.

Yay blackbox!

The blackbox version I am running is from a .deb, so I can't really apply a patch.

Is it possible to do this without patching?

Well I apt-getted my version of Blackbox too, and what I did was, patched it then recompiled and it worked fine.

I don't think there's another way.

You should just be able to right click somewhere in the slit, and select 'always on top" (or something like that).

While I haven't used bbkeys much, I think the answer is yes to the second question.

I can make it always on top, but then it gets in the way when I maximize a window. I think you may have slightly misunderstood what I was asking.

You should be able to set the position and geometry of the apps windows in ~/.Xresources (or .Xdefaults). This would open the window at a predefined size and location so as not to cover gkrellm, for example. Maximize would toggle between this setting and fullscreen.
