Hello all - I thought I might be wise to post this query somewhere a little more prominent. Anyway - basically I am a total newvie whose video display isnt quite right under Linux. In Win 98 when I had this problem, I changed the adapter refresh rate. Is there an equivalent in Linux ? Thanks.

you can change the refresh rate in your XF86Config file. there are specifications for both vertical and horizontal refresh rates, so refer to you manual...there may be some gui app to help with this (xf86config or xf86cfg) but if everything seems ok except the refresh rate i'd just edit the file.

/usr/X11R6/bin/xvidtune

Your distro probably has it's own tuner, which is probably in your manual, but this is the generic one. As far as the warning about harming your monitor, that generally means old monitors (think pre1995-6), not anything you're likely to have. That said, no promises that it won't either. Your best bet is to dig through the vendor's manual/web page, or ask again, with the name and version of your distro, so someone with a similar system can help you.
