Okay. So i figured out why i've been having problems with themes and such in Blackbox. Its cause ive been using blackbox-0.51.

So today i downloaded the blackbox-0.61.0 RPM and it installed into /usr/X11R6/share/Blackbox/blackbox-0.61.0. /usr/X11R6/share/Blackbox is my main blackbox directory, which has my styles and background folders and stuff.

My question is, how do i upgrade to bb-0.61.0? All the files are in the blackbox-0.61.0 directory, but what do i do now? I had bb installed with drake 7.0, so I dont know if i should remove the bb-0.51 RPM and just do the 0.61.0 install.

Are there any special files I need to change? I know Mandrake has that graphical login screen, but does bb 61 automatically configure it to the new one or something?

Also, when I do 'blackbox -version' it gives me 0.61.0, but themes and all that stuff dont work.

This is me pulling the answer out of my ... purse, yeah, that's it.

caveats:
I have only worked with .gz's not .rpm's.

Your old styles and themes will probably not work in the newer version of black box. IIRC the format was changed, a few months back. Search on bb.themes.org to find a relavant posting.

If you would like to keep the themes and styles, you will probably have to recreate them in the new format.

i just downloaded the 61 .tar.gz file (sourceball) and did the
./configure
make
make install
then created a file called .xinitrc file in my home directory (root if your root or if its a user account probably /home/<name> )
then added this line in the .xinitrc file
exec blackbox
when you type startx it should start blackbox, then when your in type this at the terminal
blackbox -version

yup yup, that'll do ya.

if you feel like being really careful, uninstall the earlier BB rpms before compilation.
