Hi all,
Ive just got a copy of RH 5.2. I want to have the X-windows interface and support for soundcard and internet. I have a second HD in this machine that is 120Mb. Will I be able to get all the relevant apps on it??

Not with 120MB. You'll need about 1GB, and I'd recommend 2GB for more leg room.

You might like to take a look at the
article http://www.linuxplanet.com/articles/createpartitons/
This looks at how much disk space is required to install linux and related issues.

I have gotten buy with 400megs with RedHat 5.2....but everone else is right I wouldn't go anything less than 1gig or 2gig. I now use a 3.2 gig for Linux. Too much good stuff out there for linux to download.

I think I used to have 500MB and I basically set everything up and had a good, working system with it. But then installed KDE and a few other things and then found myself without enough diskspace. So I used partition magic to enlarge the linux partition to 1GB (sneaky me eh...) and then rebooted - the LILO prompt hung! it displayed LI and then froze. Whoops http://www.linuxplanet.com/discussion/smile.gif
So booted with the redhat CD-ROM, got into my system again and re-ran lilo and then it worked fine..
Got plenty of space on a 1GB partition though. For now anyway. Linux can be as little or as big as you want. You can have a fully functioning Linux OS on one floppy disk but it will be very limited in features. A gig or two will be needed if you want all the bells and whistles.
