Didn't the installer set up the 'emu10k' module for your SBLive? urinal cake 06-16-2002, 08:31 AM It sounds like you're very new to this. I commend you for giving linux a try. Use linuxdoc.org and Google to do some reading on the kernel. This link is some good starter reading, Interesting!! (http://ctdp.tripod.com/os/linux/howlinuxworks/)also. What really helped me with the kernel and modules was a howto on loadable kernel modules (LKM's) that I found modules explained (http://www.tldp.org/HOWTO/Module-HOWTO/) Some of the info is dated, but getting a general understanding will really help you in getting everything working and troubleshooting. On your specific question: My soundcard uses the same module as yours, but I had to set it up manually because I use Slackware. The thread linked below details the criteria necessary for sound to work on my box (using modules, not support in the kernel). If you are using OSS, the same conditions should apply to you. If you know how, you can check to see if the criteria have been met on your box and maybe isolate the problem. If you don't know how, post back. I don't know what the default RedHat kernel is like, or how it sets up sound, but the basics would still apply. this thread might help (http://www.linuxnewbie.org/cgi-bin/ubbcgi/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=2&t=007663) [ 16 June 2002: Message edited by: urinal cake ] justlinux.com
