Hello All,
I am running Mandrake 8.0 on my home machine and I have run into dependancy problems when I try to install new software. I was just wondering how this whole "apt-get" thing works and if there's something similar to use in Mandrake....and if so how to use it :) Thanks.

Supposedly urpmi is Mandrake's "answer to apt-get". I could go off on a rant about this, but this isn't the right forum for that :) So, sniff around for info on urpmi (man urpmi, check http://www.linux-mandrake.com , search for it on http://www.google.com/linux , etc.)

I always do a complete install of my distro. It cuts down on the amount of dependency problems unless the software requires a newer version of something.
What kind of install did you do? Minimal, Workstation, Full/Complete?

When Mandrake tells you there are dependent rpm's to be installed, doesn't it ask you for the specific CD that has those files (even going so far as to eject the cd tray when it asks)? And if you give it the CD it wants, won't it install the dependent RPMs?
Of course, if the dependent RPMs aren't on either CD, then it's time for search type activities. If that's the case, a site mdwatts just turned me on to is rpmfind.net, check it out! (http://www.rpmfind.net)
Let us know how it goes.
