I burned a CD from gnucash's home page, using the download that identified itself as Mandrake GnuCash packages (obviously, I use Drake). When I tried to install the RPM, I got a list of 9 files needed by gnucash 8 of which are libguppi*files, and the other is libg-wrap-runtime-guile.so.2.I tried to force it, but it didn't install correctly.

I'd really like to eliminate my need for Quicken.

I looked on both of the Drake install CDs, but they're not there.Where are these files?

Ok, I found the guppi files on another ftp site, but I still can't find the libg-wrap-runtime file. Anybody got a guess?

There is one for Mandrake Cooker.

Thanks bunches md...

I've finally got all the dependencies worked out, and now I've got gnucash.

New issue: I need to import my .qif files, but when I look in /mnt/windows/quickenw, there are no .qif files! I've got .qdf, .qdl, & .qsd all that look like they could be data files, but since they're not .qif, gnucash doesn't want them.

Any thoughts?

rpmfind...what a concept!

Your welcome. Good job...

Does gnucash advertise that it supports importing Quicken data files? If so, then there has to be option somewhere to do it.

Any info on the gnucash website? faq's etc.

md...

Yes, one of gnucash's better features is the ability to import Quicken's .qif files, thereby making it painless to dump another M$ app.

I've got it fixed. Turns out that where I wasn't able to create a .qif file to import while running Quicken in Wine, I was able to create that same file while in Windows. So then I just rebooted back out of the dark side and into the light, and voila! There it was, and it was .qif!

And another Windows app bites the dust...

Thanks again for your help! :D

Your welcome again.

You had to export the Quicken data files to qif. I was going to suggest you try the export feature, but you've already figured it out.

How is gnucash? Similar to Quicken? I've been using Quicken for years and would be interested in using gnucash if the import qif feature works well. Thanks.

Yeah, Once I got gnucash up & running & exported my .qif files, everything was kool. The program has a very similar "look & feel" to Quicken, making it easy to use if you're used to Quicken.

My wife is really the one that it's for, as she does the accounting work in the house. Part of my mission is to get her to live in a Linux world, but she's been full of FUD. Once I got gnucash set up, I gave it a link on her desktop, then showed her how easy it is to run. She's used it now, and she's ok with it (meaning very little whining about how it's not the same as fill in the blank), which is what I usually get when I try to pry her away from an M$ app.

So, bottom line is, it looks every bit as good as Quicken, and just as easy to use. I give it a thumbs up..

Thanks j.

I actually downloaded the new OpenLinux Workstation 3.1 and installed on my work pc today (yeah I did some o/t) and then read in some literature from Caldera that it includes GnuCash. That was easy so I will give it a try tomorrow.
