Gents:
Just tried downloading the OPERA_4.01_beta browser. I'm running RedHat_6.0 & downloaded in a recent MOZ_nightly ... anyrate, the OPERA beta failed in unpack either in the *.tar.gz OR the *.rpm versions.
My screwup OR OPERAs?

I just downloaded the static version, it worked fine for me. Kinda slow and still bugy, but it's faster than mozilla! (ouch)
Tell me about it !
After OPERA wouldn't unpack, I went for a hike while the nightly MOZ-build downloaded. Started running THAT thru a list of sites I've developed and MOZ-nb bombed, dumped-core ( on LNO!!!) and wouldn't restart but swearing error_messages like a drunk_sailormoon!!!
I had downloaded the static-version (*.tar.gz) of OPERA, but when I tried to unzip <gzip -dc etcetc | tar -xvf - > I get the meaasage "not a gzipped file" or such ... nothing else/varients worked so I blamed it on last nights MOZ - all this hoohaa ... as my K6_RedHat heats the room while I type away on a seedy fossil PacBell-Win95 no wonder Gates sucks in da $$$$$$$$$ too fscking much .......

I downloaded the .deb and it installed fine. I am just curious, what are all the people who say opera is slow comparing it too. It is by far the fastest graphical browser I have seen. Is everyone comparing it to lynx or what?

Opera installed fine for me on Debian using the .deb's too.
Gents:
Must be my blundering, then ... in either the RedHat unpacking or download. I'll try OPERA again this evening using my old NS_4.51 ta download.
Gents:
brought OPERA_static_beta down in MOZ-17_stable.
Opera unpacked & installed Okey ... I'm on it now, but
it crashes every 5 minutes for whatever reasons.
No noncrashing_BookMarks! But blazing fast!

I'm comparing it to Netscape 4.7 and Mozilla 17. It is faster than M17, but not 4.7. It is kinda slow though.

I take that back. I downloaded the dynamic .tar.gz instead of the static .rpm and it is much faster. This is pretty usable really.

Wow, there is a huge difference between the rpm and the .tar.gz file! http://www.linuxnewbie.org/ubb/eek.gif as it is, I like this more than Netscape! The only thing I don't like (so far) is that the text-area's don't wrap but this thing is more stable than netscape (so far)

Yeah DT:
It was the static-*.tar.gz OPERA_beta version I finally got to install. Pretty fast ... and now that I've played with OPERA some, it doesn't crash nearly as easy, to say I'm more cautious about random bouncing over sites ... tho both MOZ & OPERA chew-ta-hell JS_textboxes.
Still I wonder if my RH6.0-Linux_2.2.5-17 kernal and Xwin_3.3.3.1 aren't showing some sags ...
The OPERA site 'advises' XW_3.3.6
BTW:I don't intend ta upgrade till L2.4x_ & XW4.x are stable & come nicely packaged .
