I been look for an avi player for four days now. Searching all the messages for help, but each player I found, downloaded, and installed give me problems. I'm running Mandrake 6.5 .. hellp, please.

have you tried LAMP (http://pauillac.inria.fr/lamp/)? I've not used it but is says it supports .avi along with mpeg and QT.

http://linux.tucows.com - look in the X11 catagory, and KDE or Gnome if you have either installed

Hey I use mandrake 7.1 and a program called aKtion! is included. It plays .avi files without a hiccup.
Give that one a try. It doesnt play .mpg's for crap though. beware.

what are you guys using fof vcd's and mpegs?
i have a p3-960mhz and 256m ram and i can't get a steady 29+fps

mpegs are best played with smpeg-gtv for vcd's there is a program called mtv, but it is not free. As for divx forget it for now. Xmps claims to do it with a special plugin and the windows .dll's , but I haven't gone to all the hastle to test it.
As for why .avi players are so hard to find it's because the .avi format is a microsoft propriatary format. So noone can get the specs.
