You need to download the *.iso file for your processor architecture and desired distro and burn that onto a CD.

For most people with Intel based systems, the *.iso file should have 'i386' somewhere in the filename.

If you don't have a CD burner, you could always pick up a Linux mag. at most newsstands which usually contains a CD with a Linux distro.

... or, go for a ftp install of Debian. Check their website for instructions on how to do that. (Mind you, the Debian distro may not be the one you would start out your Linux experience with, as it's not that easy to install - like SuSe or Mandrake/RedHat).

Hope that helps? :)

Not for SuSE though. The only iso that's available from SuSE is a live evaluation version. DON'T DOWNLOAD THAT. It runs only off the CD.

The SuSE ftp install is supposed to be rather tricky and downloading all the files and get them on a CD is even harder. If you want SuSE then get the boxed version ($29.90 for the CDs and a great book that gets you started). If you don't want to spend the money then you should download a distribution that offers isos.
