Installation -> Reiserfs question

Ok, I'm going to be installing Redhat 2.4 onto the system I'm building (as soon as the last components arive), but I wanted to also use the Reiserfs system.

How difficult is this? I am given to understand that a kernal recompile will likely be necessary, but I think I can handle that.

Will I be able to convert all the ext2 partitions, and if so, how? I couldn't find an NHF on this...

As an additional note, I don't have access to a CD burner.

RedHat 2.4 :confused: ..... you are hopefully referring to the kernel here, since the latest 'stable' RedHat is 7.0/7.1?

There should be an option to use ReiserFS when you are partitioning the disk(s) at install time, instead of the usual ext2. At least this is the way it is with Mandrake 7.x.

Are you going to use disk(s) with some Linux distro already installed?

Exactly what I meant. I've got Redhat 7.0 on CD, kernal 2.4 is what's on it, IIRC.

RH 7 does not support Reiserfs on install. There is a boot disk with support on www.namesys.com (http://www.namesys.com) for download though. A floppy that is. Right now SuSE and Mandrake support Reiserfs by default, but that will probably change with the next versions available.
