*nods* RedHat huh?

 Debian
has apt-get ... never had problems with that... =)

But in case you want to stick to your not-superior distro... look on the Redhat site for fixes... I heard dozen of peeps complaining about that update agent...

That's for the people that bought the service package from RedHat.

If you run gnome, you might want to update that here (http://www.ximian.com/) and get their Red Carpet updater (http://www.ximian.com/apps/redcarpet.php3)

It works great for me.

From the CLI run: up2date. In order for this to work you must be logged in as root. If you get an error post it here. You do not have to purchase anything from redhat for it to work. I just ran it about three hours ago and I downloaded my copy of RedHat7.

Ok thats the newest whats happend . LOL Since iam busy with Linux something always happens to me here . lol Anyway ....
I have tried "up2date kernel" Which seemed to work fine . After that i saw on this side that i can install an other desktop which actually looked pretty kewl . So i installed that one . Now my internet doesnt work anymore and my sound not either . And as i did a shutdown this morning it said something bout a segmentation fault . While booting it seems to look for the stuff stil in the old kernel folder if i did understand the message right . Do i had to do something after i had runned up2date kernel ?
Help ?

Don't upgrade the kernel with up2date but anything else if you are a beginner.

Open as superuser /etc/lilo.conf
modify it to reflect the new kernel in the

/boot/

directory

then in a shell just issue the command

lilo

If your internet doesn't work it has just lost the correct COM port IRQ setting due to you tinkering with kernel upgrades.

See "man setserial" for info on how to fix it.
I add the following line to my
/etc/rc.d/rc.local

# SET THE MODEM TO BE ON IRQ 9
/bin/setserial /dev/ttyS3 uart 16550A irq 9 spd_vhi

So every time the PC boots it sets the modem to COM 4(ttyS3) irq 9.

Yeah that is possible a good idea . Anyways with my internet it will be bit more difficult - coz i go to the internet over lan . but anyway thanx a lot ! i will try that .
The strange thing is that it stil seems to work for the rest .

Ok i reinstalled RedHat - i dunno for the hundreds time i guess - lol and installed afterwards the helix gnome - which was suggested here . But since then when i want to halt my system - i get a whole page of i dunno what stuff and in the end is written segmentation fault . I mean it shuts down quite good jus not the last command . That seems to cause this error . But for the rest this gome version is pretty kewl !
