netscape 6 pr3

sorry if this has already been covered, but i didn't see it.

i just installed netscape 6 preview release 3, but since it wanted to go into /usr/local/netscape i installed it as root (so that it could make the directory in /usr/local). now i can't run it as a normal user. i have no trouble as root, and i've even tried chown normaluser * in the directory, but i still can't make it work. when i first tried it i got a seg-fault. i did chown normaluser netscape and at least got past that, but it still won't work. it just sits there, won't even give me that little blue and white splash screen. i'm sure i'm missing something obvious, can someone point out to me what it is?
