I just just checked the size of /var/log and its 22 megs. I use Linux in a desktop environ, it's up maybe 6-8 hrs a day on the weekdays - 24/7 on the weekends, I have a dynamic IP, and I'm the only user. IMHO, I don't require a lot of log archiving. I want a LEAN system.

I made some changes to logrotate.conf but I'm not sure I'm on the right track. Does anyone have some sage advice for managing logfiles?

In my SuSE 6.2 system, I edited /etc/rc.config . Default time to store logs was 365 days (!) and I cut that to 7 days. You may wish to use some other figure, of course, but anything over 1 works fine here.
