I'm having problems getting my sound to play properly on Mandrake 8.1. It's a OPL3/SAx integrated chip on a Toshiba Satellite 225CDS (yes, I know its a few years old, but it works :) ).
sndconfig will not detect the card by PnP, but I can enter the IO, IRQ, DMA, etc. values, and hear the test sounds correctly. I can at that point, play MP3s in XMMS.
When I halt the system and restart it the next day, the sound no longer works. The startup screen says the opl3sa2 module loads OK, but I get no sound.
I can modprobe -r opl3sa2 and remove the module from memory, then run sndconfig and get it working again as described above. But that's a major pain in the a** to do every time I want to listen to MP3s. I would like a permanent solution.
I would consider myself just below an intermediate in Linux knowledge. If you can help, I'd be greatly appreciative. Thanks!
