I just installed Linux (Mandrake 8.0 Dist) on a partition off a NTFS HD with Win 2k previously installed. I went through the install process without any problems, and booted fine untill it tried to start X Windows. At that poit the screen went bad, flashing lines and colors randomly. I was informed that I would have to run Xfree configuration, and change monitor timings, etc. .. but I am not sure how, or what setting to change or what to change them to. Please help!!!!!

My system:
AMD Athlon 500 (Gen 1 MB)
344 MB PC 133 Kingmax RAM

CTRL-ALT-BACKSPACE to get out of X if you haven't already done so. Try running either xf86cfg or xf86config from the commandline.
www.xfree86.org (http://www.xfree86.org) should have docs on configuring X and you will also have quite a few of them already installed on your system.
