I have downloaded the drivers required for this 'linmodem' from motorola's website. I haven't a clue what to do next. i tried looking for FAQ's on the internet but i only found FAQ's for ISA modems - the SM56 is a PCI modem. The driver comes as an RPM file, which i have installed. i then ran the ppp dial-up tool but it could not locate any modem and i do not know which .conf file i may need to alter.
Thank You.

I have the same problem.
have you loaded the module you created?
(use modprobe)
The depmod command gives me unresolved references. I am beginning to think that my kernel (default for Mandrake 8.1) is compiled with multiprocessor support which is not compatible with the modem.
Also, the motorola site warns that the driver only works with the intel chipset. My motherboard has the Via chipset on the PCI to ISA bus, (presumably the bit the kernel needs to interact with?)

Has Anyone out ther got this modem working?

I am not sure about this... but my experience with the modem is that you need to install two things: The modem itself, and the driver for the chipset of the modem. So if you can't find a modem.. maybe the first step is missing? I don't know, I did both steps one after the other, so I don't know if you could install the modem and then 'it not working' but detected. Take a look at one of the threads where I was asking about how to install my modem. But then again... if the modem says the modem will not work, then it might not. Doesnt' hurts to try, right?
