Before Mandrake 8, Mandrake would never start playing sound (even though it said if found my card) without my running sndconfig. Open XTerm or Gnome terminal, whatever you prefer. Type su to operate as root, and enter. Then, type your root password. Next type sndconfig, which will walk you through an easy to use sound configuration tool. I have no experience with your network card, but you might want to check as to whether or not it is supported. Hope this helps.

You may have your reasons for trying this on Mandrake 7.0, but this would be much easier in version 8.0 (better support for even more hardware).

I started with Mandrake 7 and am now using Mandrake 8. Though 7 is good and rock solid 8 is better with the KDE2 and other additions. But in either I set up my NIC the same. I have a pci NE2000 compatible card. I run netconf and set it up in there. All I had to enter was the ip address, the device (eth0) and the module ne2k-pci. Since it's pnp it setup the irq and address itself. Mandrake 7 had some graphical tools in the control panel to set both the sound card and network card up but they are gone as of 7.2. But as far as where. If you don't mind the download version, go to cheapbytes and order one for I think it's $4. Got mine there and love it. But if either way use netconf or lnxconfig to setup your nic. One word of warning. A lot changes from 7 to 8 so expect to learn some new ways of doing things. (CUPS for printing, Arts sound server which sucks on my machine, Samba) But done right it's as stable as 7.

There must be a ton of mirors on the net that have the Mandrake 8.0 ISO's, but this place is always quite up-to-date: http://www.linuxiso.org
