Finally decide to build up a Linux box last week. (emphasis on finally)

Grabbed a Duron 800 and a Shuttle AZ12 board. I've been slowly stockpiling extra parts from upgrades, and hot deals, so I've got everything else.

My problem is that when I power up, the BIOS never completes posting. The MB detects the Duron, but never even gets to the memory check (Award Bios). I've switched the DIMM's around in various configurations, even pulled a 256 stick from my Win box. Same result, CPU is detected successfully, and the process stops cold.

Any ideas?

It sounds like you need to clear the cmos. There should be a jumper on the motherboard itself to do just this. Usually you just take the jumper off for a few seconds and then put it back on.

Good Luck

np bud, I had the same thing happen to me on many different pc builds - I just learned my lesson and I clear the cmos everytime I build a pc. Its part of my routine now - I suggest you get in the same routine. I dunno why we need to clear the cmos on a brand new board though. Perhaps someone can enlighten me...

Thanks and Good Luck
