Cable Connection

Id like to know how to connect to the internet using a cable modem in mandrake 7.2.
during the installation i choose cable connection and enter the dhcp server details but it fails to obtain the ip address via dhcp during booting. I have also entered the dns server name and ip address in netconf.
please help.

Have you searched the forums for 'cablemodem' as there are hundreds of posts on the subject?
www.linux-mandrake.com (http://www.linux-mandrake.com) has online docs for setting up such things. I've posted the url so many times and I don't even use Mandrake.

Go to their homepage and click on documentation, then select user guide,htlm, english etc. The list should have a link to show how to setup.

Of course it depends on if your ethernet card is up and running.

Enter ifconfig at the commandline and post the results.
