I know I have one on my mobo, cause it is longer than the pci, and black.

The problem is that I don't think that it has a little aluminum removable slot thingie. I.E. if I installed an ISA modem in, then the phone line connector wouldn't be on the outside of the box.

Please help.

You would have to post the make/model of your mobo to find out for sure, but it sounds like that isn't an ISA slot if it doesn't have a way to get to the outside world (although what you're describing sounds like an ISA slot). Perhaps it's some sort of internal expansion slot. Check your manufacturer's web site, they'll have specs and probably a visual diagram of the beast.

The little aluminum removable slot thingie is attached to the isa or pci device. You just remove the little aluminum removable slot thingie cover (if there) and the isa modem should have one on it to replace the one you just removed.

I've never seen a pci or isa modem that didn't have one. You need it to secure the device with the screw or else it would work itself loose.

some cases don't match up with a mobo perfectly. if that's your situation, then you can
(a) buy another case, making sure that you get one that will work
(b) cut a slot where you need it - you'd best disassemble your computer before trying this, and make sure you don't leave any little bits of metal behind that may cause a short
(c) forget about using that slot
mighta missed some other alternative, but can't think of it at the moment :)
cases can be found pretty cheap, especially those without power supplies, fwiw. www.pricewatch.com (http://www.pricewatch.com) may be useful.

That ISA panel may be shared with the last PCI slot. If you are using the bottom PCI slot try moving the part to another PCI slot and see if that open panel now lines up with your ISA modem.
