Hello,
I am trying to get a Zoom Internal PCI modem Model 2920) working under SuSE 7.1. I had Mandrake linux installed and the modem was working fine, but I have been unable to get it working under SuSE. The modem is NOT a winmodem, and in fact comes with general directions on how to use it with Linux.
I followed the instructions on configuring CI modems on page 189 of the SuSE 7.1 manual:
Step 1: Using YaST I intergrated the modem with the 'Modem configuration' option to use ttyS2.
Step 2: I ran the 'scanpci -v' command and got the following output:
root@linux:/home/ryanbubb > scanpci -v

There is no output, but all seems well.
Step 5: I test this configuration with the 'wvdialconf /dev/null' command and
get the following output:

Sorry, no modem was detected! Is it in use by another program?
Did you configure it properly with setserial?
Please read the FAQ at http://www.worldvisions.ca/wvdial/
If you still have problems, send mail to
wvdial-list@worldvisions.ca.
Step 6: Hmmm.. that doesn't look good. So I try to run minicom and give the modem an AT command, but that doesn't work!
So I am stuck. When I got the modem working under Mandrake Linux I used /dev/ttyS4. But the modem integration option in YaST only gives ttyS0-3 as options. I tried skipping the YaST step and just use setserial on ttyS4 and create the soft link to /dev/ttyS4 from /dev/modem myself, but had similar results.
Help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
Ryan

Step 4: Bus 2, device 10 appears to be my modem! Great. The port seems to be 0xd800 and the IRQ is 11. So I run the setserial comand described in themodem's linux install instructions:
'setserial /dev/ttyS2 uart 16550A port 0xd800 irq 11'.
There is no output, but all seems well.
Step 5: I test this configuration with the 'wvdialconf /dev/null' command and
get the following output:
root@linux:/home/ryanbubb > wvdialconf /dev/null

Sorry, no modem was detected! Is it in use by another program?
Did you configure it properly with setserial?
Please read the FAQ at http://www.worldvisions.ca/wvdial/

wvdial-list@worldvisions.ca.
Thanks,
Ryan
